Take off into relaxation today!  Explain to your child that you are going to practice a deep breath like a rocket.  While he inhales, taking air into his lungs, you will sound the count down until take off when he exhales, letting the air out of his lungs.

Invite your child to stand or sit with a straight back.  Have him hold his hands gently together in front of his chest, getting ready for the take off.  As you count to five, have him press his hands together and inhale during the count-down.  When you get to five, have him blast off with his exhale, moving his hands in an upward take off motion until arms are straight up.  When his hands and arms reach straight up, he can separate his hands allowing them to circle back around to starting position.  Invite him to make a whooshing sound during the take off, fully exhaling as his arms circle around to the start position.

Repeat as many times as necessary.  Have him check in with his body after the take off and note any sensations or changes.

  1. I love everything I’ve seen in these blogs! Wonderful ideas! Love it, Love it, Love it! As a mom, kids yoga teacher and school psych.

  2. Hi I work with children who are having episodes of challenging behaviour. Teaching Self regulation is a big part of my work. Would love to have updates on strategies I could incorporate into my work
